At Saba Verda International School we have chosen our teaching methods on the basis of scientific evidence showing increased academic performance, increased abilities to retain and recall information, lowering of emotional distress and conduct problems as well as development of social and emotional skills and positive attitudes toward self
The first part of the day we work in CORNERS teaching our core subjects; *languages (English, Catalan and Castillian),*mathematics and *science. Working in corners is basically creating small workshops with manipulative material in specific areas of the classroom facilitating a healthy environment to work in concentration and peace with basic important skills.
The latter part of the morning we work with PROJECT BASED LEARNING (PBL), which integrates knowledge with practice, nurtures the ability to analyse problems and to identify and acquire the knowledge and skills needed to deal with real-life situations. PBL develops teamwork and communication skills and trains pupils to be reflective and assess their own and others' work.
SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. It enhances students’ capacity to integrate skills, attitudes, and behaviors to deal effectively and ethically with daily tasks and challenges.
Our curriculum plan includes PRACTICAL DEMOCRACY . We believe it is essential for children to participate in a democracy from an early age to understand the workings of a democratic society.
